our leaders & staff
SSBC is an elder led congregational church. The congregation meets quarterly to discuss and make decisions regarding significant church issues like appointing leadership, establishing doctrine, and major financial decisions. The elders and pastors, supported by the church staff, provide spiritual leadership to the congregation. We have a number of committees and ministries that carry out the work of the church.
The New Testament churches were shepherded by a plurality of elders. The elders (also called pastors or overseers in the Bible) have responsibility for the spiritual care and leadership of the church. Elders must be men of exemplary Christian character who demonstrate leadership, an aptitude to teach sound doctrine, and a pastor’s heart for the congregation. Our current elders are:

Senior Pastor – Cody Busby
Cody Busby graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University, majoring in Applied Ministry and minoring in Family Psychology. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and is in the process of completing his Doctor of Ministry degree (Preaching Emphasis).Cody has been a Minister of Students and Recreation in Mississippi and for the past ten years he has been the Senior Pastor of a Baptist church in Mulvane, Kansas. Cody moved to Hingham began to serve at Senior Pastor here at South Shore Baptist Church in January 2017. Cody is married to Melissa, whom he met as an undergrad. They have four daughters. Cody loves coffee, playing golf, Oklahoma Sooners football, trying his hand at woodworking, and being a dad to his girls.
Associate Pastor – Dave Comeau
Dave Comeau grew up in Western Massachusetts before moving to Boston for undergraduate studies in psychology at the University of Massachusetts-Boston. During this time he met his lovely wife Stacey who attended South Shore Baptist Church. They were married at the church in May 2010 and became members that same year. Dave began a pastoral internship at SSBC in November 2011 that lasted until May 2015. During this time Dave completed a Master’s of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. He was hired in January 2016 and serves as Associate Pastor. He enjoys spending time with his wife and their English Bulldog, fishing, hiking, reading, music and watching Boston sports with friends.
Interim Assistant Pastor – Stephen McDonald
Stephen McDonald was born and raised in Northwest Arkansas. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2008 with a degree in criminal justice and political science. After graduating, he began his Master of Divinity at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and began to serve in local churches. Stephen met his wife, Amanda, in college and they were married in July of 2010. The two of them have lived on the South Shore since 2014. He is currently studying at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he is in the process of completing his Masters of Theology (ThM). Director of Worship – Jennifer Boel
Jennifer grew up in Pembroke, Massachusetts, graduated from Eastern Nazarene College (Massachusetts) in 1994 with a B.S. in Music Education and later pursued a Master’s Degree in Special Education. Her experience and training in worship planning and leading prior to and throughout her college years helped pave the way for becoming the part-time Director of Worship at South Shore Baptist in 1999. In 2005, she gave up her full-time teaching position to dedicate herself to being the full-time Worship Director at SSBC. Director of Youth – Pete DeAngelis
Pete was born and raised in Fairfield, CT. He grew up in the church and trusted in Christ at a young age. In high school and college Pete played football. At the start of his junior year God called him away from football. This brought him the opportunity to work at ESPN during his final year in college. Pete was trained and mentored here and has had many opportunities at SSBC to develop his gifts in preaching/teaching and discipleship. Pete has completed his M.A. in Religion concentrating on Biblical Studies and is pursuing his M.Div. at Southern Seminary. Pete is recently married to Sammy, and he enjoys hiking, sports, athletic endeavors, the New York Giants, reading, and barbeques. Pete can be reached at 781-749-2592 x107 or email
Director of Children’s Ministry – Kate Duprex
Kate is a friendly, creative, and welcoming presence in the Children’s Wing. Kate hails from Northern Ireland but currently loves living by the ocean in Hull. Kate has deep formal educational experience, strong leadership and organizational qualities and a deep heartfelt desire to disciple our children toward being Christ followers. She is an artist as well as a mother to Alex and wife to Paul.

Director of Nursery – Becky Mills
Becky grew up in Hanover and started coming to SSBC as a child. She attended Fitchburg State College and graduated with a BS in nursing. She worked full-time as a psychiatric nurse before becoming a stay-at-home mom for her two children. They lived out of state for over a decade, returning to MA in 2007 when her husband Roy retired from the Air Force. She enjoys time with her family, gardening, taking Zumba classes, reading and photography. She volunteered with new mothers assisting the lactation consultant and ran a support group in VA.
