Prayer

Prayer is a must.  Prayer is like breathing.  We simply cannot live spiritually without it.  We cannot grow as Christians or minister effectively apart from the power of the Holy Spirit.  And that power is received through God’s Word and through prayer.

SSBC is striving to be a praying congregation.  We pray individually and in our families.  We pray in committee meetings, Bible studies and prayer groups.  Our elders meet monthly to pray for the church membership, and our church staff prays weekly for the members.   It’s not uncommon to see a small cluster of people after a worship service gathered in a pew with their heads bowed, praying for one another’s needs.  Our Sunday morning prayer team prays for the congregation during the worship service, and is available to pray confidentially with individuals immediately after the service.

How can I be involved in praying?

  • Join with other Christians for prayer in a Bible study group or other small gathering.
  • Come to one of our regularly scheduled open prayer groups: such as our 8 am prayer in the church library Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights at the church at 7 pm.
  • Come to the congregational prayer service on the last Sunday of the month at 5 pm in the sanctuary.
  • Talk to one of our pastors about being part of the Sunday morning prayer teams.

How can I receive prayer?

  • Fill out a blue Prayer Request, available in the pews, and place it in an offering basket on Sunday morning.  The prayer team, staff, and elders will pray and keep all requests confidential.
  • Fill out the web form below.  These requests are also confidential and only available to the prayer team.
  • Go forward after a weekend service.  At the front the sanctuary, prayer team members wait to pray with those desiring prayer.
  • Ask for the pastors or elders to pray over you (read James 5:13-18).
  • Submit a request or a praise for The Vine, our weekly bulletin of prayer and praise which is available each Sunday in the foyer.
